Removals Insurance : Britannia Greers Insurance
Transit and Storage Insurance
This will cover your goods whilst they are in our care and control, against loss or damage, subject to policy terms and conditions. We offer two levels of insurance; indemnity, (like for like) and replacement as new.
Storage Insurance
If all or part of your removal includes going into our storage facilities then we automatically include fire insurance as part of our transit and storage insurance premiums. Some removers charge separately for fire cover as a percentage of the value of your goods.
Premises Protection
Some companies may offer you Premises Protection Insurance. However, under current UK legislation all companies must have Public Liability Insurance and this will protect you should we damage your Premises during the move process. It is not necessary to purchase additional Premises Protection Insurance.
What is Indemnity Insurance?
Indemnity Insurance is for cover of items on a like for like basis. In the unlikely event that your goods become lost or damaged in transit, Indemnity Insurance provides you with the opportunity to present a claim for repair of the item or financial compensation.
What is Replacement as New Insurance?
Britannia Greers also offers “Replacement as New” Insurance, which entitles you to replacing, repairing or financial compensation for any lost or destroyed item at the insurer’s option.
Regulated Insurance
How is Regulated Insurance different from Liability cover?
Many non-regulated removal companies only offer Liability cover. This is NOT insurance. It is an agreement between you and the removal company, not an Insurance Policy! If you choose liability cover you may only be paid the second-hand value of goods that are lost or destroyed.
Valuation of Goods – who values them?
It is your responsibility to estimate the value of your goods. The value advised to insurers must be enough to replace your goods as new so it’s always a good idea to compare values in retail outlets to ensure your estimate is the right estimate. For instance, the bed you bought five years ago for £600 may have increased in price to £1,000 if you replace it today.
What happens if I under – insure?
If you insure for less than the full value at risk then any claim you make could be scaled down. For example, if your goods are insured at £25,000 but the true value is £50,000 you will only receive half the amount of any claim you submit for the loss or damage of goods.
What happens if I have to make a claim?
If you want to make a claim you will need to notify Britannia Greers in writing within 7 days of delivery. Full details of the claim process are supplied with each quotation that you will receive.
